Game to open at Springs Mall with new look and layout

04.12.2018 by Marketing Concepts

Game will open at Springs Mall on 24 April 2019, introducing more shopping variety and the brand’s new look and layout to shoppers from Springs and surrounding Ekurhuleni.

When it opens, Game will become the fifth anchor tenant at the award-winning, 50,000sqm Springs Mall, joining Checkers, Pick n Pay, Woolworths and Edgars. The new Springs Mall Game store will span 3,600sqm and will be paired with a 120sqm Game Liquor.

Springs Mall is a joint venture between Blue Crane Eco Mall (Pty) Ltd, Flanagan & Gerard Property Development & Investment, JSE-listed retail REIT Vukile Property Fund and Murinda Investments, which is part of the Giuricich Bros Group.

“We are thrilled to introduce Game to Springs Mall on a long lease,” says Jonathan Shutte, director at Flanagan & Gerard, which also manages Springs Mall. “Our shoppers have often told us that they would like a Game store in the mall, and we’ve listened to them. Our team engaged with Game’s senior management and, based on the mall’s ongoing successful performance that we could demonstrate in our regular communications with them, Game and Game Liquor chose to open at Springs Mall.”

The concept-leading new Game store will be on the mall’s upper level, which will now be ‘book-ended’ by Woolworths and Game and thus improve the balance of customer flows. The new Game completes the upper level retail mix, along with the 660sqm expansion of Springs Mall’s Planet Fitness Just Gym in response to high levels of demand from its customers.

The long-awaited launch of Game Springs Mall promises to include Game’s FoodCo, which will be a welcome addition for local shoppers, and its big range of ‘white goods’ will increase the retail variety at Springs Mall. Game carries stock of around 15,000 line items, offering a massive choice across brands and price in many categories.

Game Springs Mall, easily accessible from Entrance 1, will also offer shoppers an innovative shopping experience. Game is redesigning their stores and launching a fresh new look, and Game Springs Mall is earmarked to be among the first few Game stores in Gauteng to boast the new design. The redesigned store layout will include consumer-friendly features including centralised till points and clutter-free shopping with lower fixtures to improve line-of-sight in-store.

Game marketing executive Terry Dale says the product line-up for the new Game store will have consumers queuing to get their share. “Our suppliers have come on board and we are going to be offering fabulous opening specials. We look forward to being of service to our local consumers and will continue to bring them great deals long after the opening hype has settled down.”

“Delivering innovation is a key pillar in Game’s business model,” says Game’s business development director John Hart, “we look forward to bringing great-value novel household solutions to consumers on the East Rand.”

“Game’s innovation is a good fit for Springs Mall, which continually innovates for its customers and retailers,” comments Itumeleng Mothibeli, Director of Asset Management at Vukile. “Springs Mall offers customers free Wifi, free open-air parking, and a great mix of top retail, leisure and events. Most recently, it has committed to invest in eco-friendly solar power. The mall plans to use this renewable electricity source to boost its energy efficiency and reduce its environmental impacts.”

With these major advances already on the cards for 2019 – Springs Mall Game opening on 24 April and its new solar installation is expected to be commissioned in May – the outlook for the dominant regional mall and its shoppers is upbeat.
